Research into Print Products - CD Packaging

Here are two examples of print products:
  1. Lily Allen's album 'Its not me, it's you'
  2. Cheryl Cole's album '3 Words'
Both album covers have been design so every part of the covers valuable space is used wisely. They each have an individual colour scheme and theme which is used throughout the CD case. The CD front cover focuses on the artist by have a large image of the artist positioned in the middle of the cover, this instantly makes the customer aware of who's album it is before they read the artist name. The front covers are empty with the use of one image. The text which is used on both CD covers is kept simple with only the name of the artist and name of the album. On the back of Lily Allen's CD case there is a numbered list of tracks which are included on the album, the list is positioned to the left side at the top of the CD case. At the right of the track listing is the name of the male who produced and recorded the album 'Greg Kurstin'. Underneath this is a small paragraph about copyright, in very small writing. A large image takes up most of the space on the back of the CD case. In the bottom left hand corner there is two website address both are related to Lily Allen. One is her official website and the other is her official Myspace page. In the bottom right corner there is a barcode so customers are able to buy this album from selected shops. On the back of Cheryl Cole's CD case she also has the list of tracks included on her CD which are numbered, the list covers the whole of the left side of the CD case. At the bottom right of the CD case she has a bar code which is in the same position as it was on Lily Allen's album. Above the barcode is a website which is her own official website. Also she has a short paragraph about copyright which is in very small writing.

The inside covers of both CD cases have the same consistent colour scheme as the rest of the CD case. Lily Allen's inside cover on the right side of the case behind the CD, is a image of her sat on top of the letter A which stands for the first letter of the last name Allen. On the left side of the case is a short few sentence which inform you about an exclusive extras included on the CD if you load the CD on your computer you can access exclusive extra content. This is useful information to the customer and because they have used the word 'exclusive' this will make the customer want to access the extra content. The inside cover to Cheryl Cole's album doesn't have anything on it except the grey marble effect background theme which is used throughout the CD case.

Lily Allen's CD is covered in bright pink this colour matches the colour scheme which is used throughout the CD case. The CD has Lily Allen in black bold writing to make the name of the artist stand out from the pink background. Underneath it has the name of the album and below that is a short paragraph about copyright. Also on the CD is three logos the first is a Parent Advisory Logo, the second is Regal a company logo and the third is Enhanced CD. Cheryl Cole's CD has a grey marble effect covering the CD which is carrying on the colour scheme from her CD case. Her name and the name of the album circle's around the CD in large black script text. There is a copyright paragraph which circles around the centre of the CD in very small text, this makes the text difficult to read and less visible.
Both of these CD cases are a good example of what I would like my DVD case to look like. They both have a consistent colour scheme and theme which they use throughout the CD case. They each have used very little text which is only relevant to the CD. I prefer Lily Allen's CD case as it is more attractive and exciting compared with Cheryl Cole's. I like the uses of the bright feminine colour scheme which will attract peoples attention. I think the use of more than one image is a good choice because it makes the CD case look more interesting.
