Images of The Veronicas

Creating my Magazine Advert

I created a sketch for initial ideas to be included in my magazine advert, this gave me a starting point when I began to create my magazine advert in Photoshop. I have decided to use the front cover of my DVD from my magazine advert in doing this it will save me valuable time as most of the design work I have already created.
I copied my DVD front cover at this stage into a new page on Photoshop so I could use this as a starting point for my magazine advert. I added the DVD logo and Warner Bros Record company logo to the bottom corners of the advert, this made the DVD look more professional. I also added some text about the released of the DVD and that the DVD will include exclusive behind the scene footage. This was a good way of creating excitement for the viewers and encouraging sales. I have given the DVD a title which is the Live Experience, this make viewers think they are in for a real live experience at the comfort of their own homes.
This is my final magazine advert I think it has a very professional look and sells my DVD well to my target audience. I have included a quote from a magazine ‘The perfect girl’s night in’, I believe this will influence viewers to buy the DVD because a well establish girl’s magazine ‘More’ have issued the quote. I have told viewers that they are able to download the DVD from Amazon which will also increase sales because viewers won’t have to leave home to buy the DVD. I have included the age restriction logo on my DVD so viewers will know the age classification off the DVD. At the bottom of the advert I have put The Veronicas official website address which will interest viewers to go and look at their website online to find out more about the DVD or the artists.

Creating my design for my DVD disk

Here is my first sketch of my design for my DVD disk. Whilst researching print products and packaging I noticed that it is very common that the disk also has a design or image printed on them which keeps with the existing theme and colour scheme of the promotion packaging. I have drawn up a quick sketch for an idea of what I would like for 'The Veronicas' Live Tour DVD to look like.
I have started to create my design on my DVD disk using Photoshop. I created three different size cricles, one for the size shape of the DVD, another for the plastic centre and finally the third circle for the middle hole inside the DVD. I found a leopard print image and cut it to fit the shape of the DVD. Next I added the text 'The Veronicas-Live Experience' which is the title of the DVD in bright pink. I made the 'Veronicas' larger so it would stand out. I added the track listings which will be included on the DVD also in pink. From looking at this image below you can tell that the text is very difficult to read, I will need to change this by making the text larger or changing the colour of the text so it is made more visible to read.

Here is my final DVD design. I have created a white glow around the outside of the name 'Veronicas' to make the name more visible and stand out so it is easier to read. I have changed the colour of the track listing to white text so it is more visible and clear to read. I have included the DVD logo, Warner Bros Record company logo and the film classification logo on the DVD. I decided to include these logos on to the DVD because from my research I found that DVD's do include the age restriction and other relevant logos on the the DVD disk. The website address for 'The Veronicas' official website is positioned at the bottom of the DVD, this gives the DVD a more professional feel.

Eamples of Pop-Rock Female Artist

Research into Print Products - DVD Packaging

Here are two examples of DVD covers for musical:
  1. High School Musical
  2. Hairspray
I have began research into DVD packaging to see what is included on a DVD cover because I will be creating my own DVD promotion packaging for my music video. The first DVD cover I have chose to analyse is 'High School Musical'.
Front Cover:
On the front cover of the DVD they have used a bright red background to attract peoples attention. The title of the DVD is in bright yellow text and also in capital letters to make the title of the DVD stand out. They have used the Walt Disney logo at the top of the DVD, this is because the show High School Musical is created by Walt Disney. The image near the bottom of the DVD cover is of the main characters that are featured in the musical. There are two logos near the bottom right corner which are inform the viewer that this DVD is suitable for all ages. In the bottom left corner there is the logo for the 'Disney Channel' who distribute the show 'High School Music' on the television. There is text in capital red letters saying 'DVD extra' along the bottom of the DVD. There is a consistent colour scheme used throughout this DVD cover the colours used are red, yellow and white.
The Spine:
Along the spine of the DVD is a small image of one of the main characters within the film. Then there is the Walt Disney logo. The title of the film 'High School Musical', in the same text style and colour as it appears on the front cover of the DVD. The two logos that show the film classification and the suitable age for the film which is universal, suitable for all ages. There is another Disney logo which indicates that this is Disney DVD.
Back Cover:
On the back cover of the DVD there a red background which is very similar to the front of the DVD. There is a consistent colour scheme of red, yellow and white which is used throughout the DVD cover. At the top of the DVD there is a short paragraph about the film to attract and interest viewers explaining about the musical. There is a small yellow text box with bonus features and a list of bonus features that are included on the DVD, this is used to also interested the viewers. There are 4 images used on the back cover. At the bottom of the DVD in the left corner is the barcode which allows this DVD to be sold in shops. There are many small logos used on the back of the cover which consist of Disney DVD logo, Walt Disney logo, Fact logo, DVD logo. In a white text box is the film classification logo, underneath is a small paragraph explain about copy right in very small text.

Here is the DVD disk for 'High School Musical'. The image on the DVD disk is identical to the image which is on the front of the DVD cover, this makes the disk instantly recognisable because the title of the DVD is in bold yellow text. The Walt Disney logo is included at the top of the DVD. The Disney DVD logo is on the left side and the age classification is on the right side of the disk.

The second DVD I have chose to analyse is 'Hairspray' which is also a musical.
Front cover:
On the front cover of this DVD the title of the DVD is positioned in the centre at the top in capital letters, in a rainbow effect of colours. The bright use of colours used in the title makes it stand out from the white background. Above and below the colourful title are some of the name of the actors that played a main character in the musical the names are in bright pink text. The DVD cover is filled with nine small thumbnail photographs of the main cha
racters that are in the film. At the bottom is another small thumbnail image of the main character in the musical. In the bottom right corner there are two logos informing viewers that this film is a PG which means Parental Guidance, general viewing but some scenes maybe unsuitable for young children. The DVD logo is positioned in the bottom left corner in bright pink. They have used a quote from Radio 1 which simply says 'Fantastic', this is encouraging and influencing viewers to think that the film must be fantastic if the people at Radio 1 said.
The Spine:
Along the spine of the DVD at the top there is a logo for a entertainment company and below this is the DVD logo. There is a small image of the main character in the musical. The title of the musical is in the same colourful text as it is on the front of the DVD. The title is in capital letters and stands out from the white background. There is another logo for New Line Cinema and below this is the classification guidelines that inform viewers that this is
a PG film.
Back Cover:
The back of the DVD is very eye catching because of the use of bright colours. There is a total number of five images used on the back of the
DVD to attract viewers attention and give them an image into what the musical will look like. There is another quotation from The News Of The World which says 'What a movie! Think Grease because this really is that good *****'. This is influencing the viewer to believe that this musical must be really good if The News Of The World say it is, so this is encouraging sales. There is a short paragraph about the musical and what the story of the musical is about. Bonus features are also included in the DVD. In the bottom right corner is a bar code so that this DVD is suitable to sold in shops. There is a small paragraph about copy right which is in very small text. The two logos that classify the age restriction on the DVD are bold and have a white background so they clearly stand out to the viewers.

Here is the DVD disk for 'Hairspray'. The disk is very colourful just like the DVD front cover. It has the same colour scheme and the rainbow effect that is used for the title of the DVD on the front cover. The images of the main characters that appear on the front of the DVD cover have been positioned around the DVD disk. I think this DVD disk is very attractive it is instantly recognisable that it is the DVD of 'Hairspray'.

From analysing both musical DVD I can detect many similarities which both DVD have used. They have both used a consistent colour scheme throughout the DVD cover and disk. This makes the DVD covers look more professional. They have used still shots from the musical to show the characters in costume so viewers can relate to them. They have used a colourful title which they have then copied on to the spine of the DVD. The DVD logo and film classification logos appear on the front, spine and back of the DVD. Both DVDs have a small paragraph explaining about the film which is on the back cover of the DVD. The barcode is position in the bottom right corner. I think the most attractive DVD cover is 'Hairspray' my reason for this are because I like the bright colour scheme, it makes the DVD look exciting and fun. The front of the DVD cover is kept simple only using small images on a white background keeps the DVD looking
sophisticated and stylish. A good use of images on the back cover keep the viewers interested.
